Make it Monday: DIY Slime Two Ways – Fluffly Slime and Glitter Slime

I finally caved and helped Dahlia make slime. Not that she was bugging me about it but I knew at some point we’d make it since it seems to be all the rage right now with the youngin’s and my nieces have made them before too.

I have a lot of craft supplies at home as one can imagine so I always try to be resourceful and use stuff I already have and only buy items that are necessary for the project. In this case, I knew I had some leftover purple and white iridescent glitter that would look great in Slime and convinced Dahlia that it would too. So, here’s how we made it…

Here’s what you’ll need for the clear glitter slime:

(makes ~10 oz. Slime)

  • 1 – 4 to 5oz. Bottle of clear glue
  • 1/2 tsp. Borax
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Glitter
  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 medium bowl
  • Vinegar (as needed for cleaning)
  • Gloves

How to make Glitter Slime:

1. Grab your 2 bowls and in the large bowl, mix 1/2 tsp. Of borax with 1 cup of hot water and whisk until fully dissolved. Let it cool well you prepare the other ingredients.

2.  Next, remove all the contents from your glue bottle into your small bowl. Now, add half 1/2 cup of cold water and whisk together.

3. Now the fun part! Add whatever glitter you’d like and as much as you like into your glue water mixture. Whisk together. We mixed purple glitter and white iridescent glitter for our slime.

4.  Now, add the glitter contents from your small bowl into the water/borax mixture of the big bowl.

5. Watch the mixture come together. Wearing gloves, use your hands to knead and fold the Slime together. Continue until you feel like all the contents stick together and don’t come apart.

Voila!

Here’s what you’ll need for Fluffy Slime:

(makes ~10 oz. Slime)

  • 1 bottle 4 oz. white glue
  • 4 cups shaving cream (used sensitive barbasol)
  • Saline contact solution (I bought a small travel size and that was enough)
  • Baking Soda
  • Large bowl
  • Food coloring (optional)

Here’s how to make Fluffy Slime:

1. In a large bowl, measure out 4 cups of shaving cream.

2. Add food coloring of your choice if you want to. Dahlia, of course, chose her favorite color pink!

3. Next, empty out a full bottle of the white glue (4 oz. or 1/2 cup) and 1/2 tsp. of baking soda. Mix together. I used a spatula.

4. Then, we added 1 tablespoon of the contact solution. This is what transforms the foam mixture. If the slime is too sticky, keep adding contact solution; knead or fold.

This is how it looks if it’s too sticky. Add more contact solution to make it stick together but not on your hands and continue to knead the slime.
Dahlia had so much fun making these and if you keep them in a sealed tight container or ziplock bag, they should hold up pretty well. I must say that I actually like the fluffy slime better, but both are fun to make and a fun stress relieving tool for parents too! 🙂

Note: try to keep slime on clean surfaces when playing and don’t put on any fabric or paper. And if you should happen to get it on clothes, use vinegar to get it right off!

 Enjoy and have some fun!
