Foodie Friday: Marugame Udon Makes it’s Debut in San Francisco

If you love Japanese Udon and live in the Bay Area, you’ve probably heard that Marugame Udon opened it’s doors last month at good ol’ Stonestown Mall in San Francisco. I personally didn’t mind the former sushi conveyor belt restaurant that it replaced, especially because it was kid-friendly, but Marugame isn’t a bad replacement. It already seems to be making a name for itself out here.

I had first heard of this particular udon restaurant while traveling to Oahu, Hawaii. Marukame Udon (different spelling but same company) usually has a line out the door with mainly tourists and the first time we went, we thought, “what’s all the fuss about?” Well, we now know.

Marugame makes their noodles handmade, fresh and in-house. They don’t cost an arm and a leg and you get to pick any of the tempura items fresh. YUM! Quick serve restaurants seem to be all the rage right now and Marugame has thrived on this notion especially with seeing how many tourists they feed on a daily basis in Hawaii and though the SF based one is still new and working on getting more efficient, I think that they too, will be on that same path of success.

What we Ordered:

  • Curry Udon
  • Shrimp Tempura
  • Eggplant Tempura
  • Zucchini Tempura
  • Potato Croqette
  • Salmon Musubi
  • Crab Salad Musubi

The food here did not disappoint since the ramen was under $10 and all it’s counterparts individually cost less than $4 each. Score! Marugame is a great deal for a delicious, steaming bowl of hot udon you know is made fresh. The only drawback right now is that you’ll have to wait. I’m not sure what the current wait times are now, but when I went it was about an hour, however, once you get a bite of the noodles in your mouth, that all goes away.

Happy eating!

  1. priligy generic The upper age limit was selected because review of the literature suggested that the association between PFO and cryptogenic stroke, a relationship relevant to investigation of pelvic DVT, is weaker beyond this cutoff; this value is similar to the upper age suggested in a recent meta analysis
